How to Compare Pentax Cameras
- Pentax offers both Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras and Compact Digital cameras. DSLR cameras function in the same way that old film cameras do and have interchangeable lenses. These two features offer a greater range of control over your images. Compact digital cameras still have excellent image quality and are compact, but offer less options and functionality.
- Within the categories of DSLR and Compact Digital you have specifications for each. Megapixels which are assigned a number such as "12.1" and refers to the resolution of the image that the camera will produce. The higher the number the greater the resolution. Different cameras also come with different zoom capabilities. These are marked with a number letter combination such as "5X."
- Pentax designs compact cameras for rugged use. If you are using your cameras outdoors in the field they have camera options that have tough exterior cases and waterproof enclosures. In addition, some cameras are temperature sealed as well
