- 1). Cut the soda bottle in half about 3/4 from the top with the knife. It is important to make a straight cut.
- 2). Fill the bottom of the bottle with 3 inches of water and mix the appropriate amount of hydroponic fertilizer into it.
- 3). Remove the lid from the the top of the cut bottle. Invert the top section and insert it into the bottom of the bottle. Place 6 inches of 1/2-inch cotton rope in the inverted top, and down to the water solution.
- 4). Fill the inverted top section with pumice.
- 5). Plant the desired vegetation in the pumice. Almost all varieties of indoor and outdoor plants will work well in this medium. It is important to tailor the environment of the plant to its natural habitat. For example, if you wish to grow a tropical plant you should position the planter in a southern window, and supply it with lots of water. For the novice, a member of the ivy family will be easy to grow and tolerant to your mistakes.
