Grants for Latin Women in Florida
- One of Florida's most well-known scholarship and grant resources for Hispanic students is the Jose Marti Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund. Available to students of Hispanic origin who plan to attend a Florida public or eligible private institution, the fund provides financial assistance on a need-based and merit basis. To be considered, students must be a Florida resident, be of Hispanic origin, hold a minimum 3.0 GPA and be enrolled in an eligible college or university. Undergraduates and graduate students must complete an Initial Student Florida Financial Aid Application, as well as a Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
- For Hispanic students living in the Southeastern United States -- including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia -- the Hispanic Scholarship Fund is a valuable resource. The foundation provides a number of grants and scholarships each year to deserving students pursuing higher education. To be considered, you must register and complete an online application that includes an academic profile, as well as supporting documentation.
- Though more of an unconventional scholarship opportunity, young Hispanic women can turn to the Miss Florida Latina competition. Open to Latinas ages 14 to 17 (Teen Division) and 18 to 27 (Miss Division), the Miss Florida Latina program seeks to raise cultural awareness, while giving young women a shot at scholarship money and other prizes. To be considered, those interested must submit an application, along with a photo and $25 fee. Once received, potential contestants will be contacted with further directives.
- For women attending Florida State University, the Theta Nu Xi scholarship is one funding source that can help ease the financial burden of paying for college. Each year, one female student is selected who best exemplifies the five tenets of the sorority: sisterhood, scholarship, service, leadership and multiculturalism. To apply, students must have at a 2.5 GPA, submit a completed application and include an unofficial college transcript.
