The Facebook Marketing Dilemma

If you are using Facebook to market your business, without using the Facebookpay per click marketing system, then you are in for quite a dilemma.
In thisarticle I will introduce you to the dilemma and I will tell you what I think youshould do when it comes to using Facebook to advertise your business forfree.
I must admit that even though I am an Internet marketer, fairly creative andreally enjoy testing new marketing techniques and new methods ofcommunication, most of my friends in the offline world had joined Facebookbefore me.
I just didn't understand the benefit of signing up, before I realized thateverybody was talking about Facebook.
And of course, as an Internet marketer,you need to be where the crowd is going to be.
It doesn't matter if it's atGoogle, some discussion forum, MySpace, Twitter or Facebook - you need to bethere.
The dilemma of using Facebook to market your business came to my mind a fewmonths after joining the community.
Most people join Facebook because they wantto communicate with their friends, they want to find old friends, and maybe findsome new friends.
It's the communication between people that seems to be whatit's all about, and for this, Facebook is close to perfect.
You join Facebook using your real name, most people do that, and when you areusing your real name at Facebook, you will "automatically" make a lot offriends.
And when it comes to your business, you will want to use Facebook tocommunicate with your business partners and your prospects as well.
You have your friends from the offline world and you have the people involvedin your business, and when it comes to Facebook, they are all considered asyour friends.
The dilemma is that most people, me included, don't want to mixfriends and business.
I don't want my (offline) friends to see updates of mymarketing stuff, I don't want them to see all sorts of images and links tomarketing stuff, I want them to see the results from the Things I Like To DoNaked Quiz (not sure if there is such a quiz, but I think you get my point).
Thesame goes for my business partners and my prospects.
I don't want them to seethe results from the "Things I Like To Do Naked Quiz", I want them only to seemarketing related stuff.
So, the Facebook marketing dilemma is really; how can you possibly separateyour business and your private life at Facebook? If you'd like to mix business with pleasure when it comes to Facebook, youcan almost guarantee that your business partners and your prospects will berather confused.
Should they see all the stuff that goes on between you and yourfriends? Do you think that this will benefit your business? If you are going to solve the Facebook marketing dilemma, you got to do thefollowing: Use only communication applications that your offline friends won't see.
Target your business partners and your prospects with your communication, and dothe other way around with your offline friends.
Events create them and invite your business partners and prospects.
You caneasily send mass e-mails to all the members of an event.
You can publish allsorts of information related to the event, and only people invited to join theevent will get all the updates.
Messages; compose new messages to your business partners and prospects.
Youcan use it as a regular e-mail, and only the person receiving the message willsee it.
Chat this is a fairly new application where you can communicate with yourFacebook friends in real-time.
You can chose who to communicate with, and thepeople chatting will be the only ones that will see the communication.
Pages create pages for your business.
This is public information about yourcompany.
You can use your pages to promote your business at Facebook, people canbecome followers, and if they do, they will get updates on new information addedto the pages, and you can use pages to communicate with your "followers".
Facebook can be a marketing nightmare, but it can also be a blessing.
Youknow that close to everybody is a member, and that it can be a very effectiveway of communication.
Communicate with your offline friends and your businesspartners and prospects, but remember, never mix them and stay focused.
