Established to support the professionals in their field, design associations provide a network of fellow professionals as well as events and fundraisers to showcase the talent and creativity of their members. Some associations, such as the Utah Designers League Association, hold annual tours of area homes and donate the proceeds to other area non-profits, while others host chapters worldwide and work to enrich their communities by offering grants and scholarships to students entering the field of interior design. - Founded by interior designers from the South Davis area of Utah in 2008, the Utah Designers League Association (UDLA) is a non-profit organization that works to bring together and create a professional support network for a number of groups, including architects, interior designers, decorators and home designers, as well as those interested in marketing, furniture moving and alternative health. Their annual Designer Showhouse Fall Tour showcases the unique and creative talents of area architects, craftsmen and designers, with all proceeds donated to area organizations. In 2009, the UDLA raised $4,500 through their Fall Tour for the Lakeview Hospital Auxiliary. The 2010 Designer Showhouse Fall Tour benefited Circle the Wagons, an area non-profit that aids families affected by violent crime through several outreach methods, such as their survival kits known as Cans of Comfort.
- The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) was founded in 1994 to provide a forum to interior design professionals to share their experiences and discuss new ideas as well as their impact on health, safety and the public. The IIDA also provides education services to its 29 chapters worldwide. The Rocky Mountain chapter serves Colorado, Montana, Utah and Wyoming with three centers, one of which is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The IIDA hosts a number of high-profile competitions to bring recognition to design firms and professionals such as the Interior Design Competition and the Will Ching Design Competition. Under the guidance of the IIDA's Board of Trustees, the IIDA Foundation provides grants and financial assistance to students entering the interior design field as well as to professionals in an effort to advance the field through education and research.
- The Intermountain Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is the largest chapter of the organization, covering the states of Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. Founded in 1975, ASID is the largest and oldest organization of its kind. The group aims to advance the field of interior design through outreach and advocacy through the ASID Foundation, as well as through educational programs at events and college chapters accredited by the Interior Design Continuing Education Council. ASID also seeks to showcase the power of design and provide support to over 40,000 members through award-winning publications such as ASID ICON and Eye on Design. Along with the U.S. Green Building Council, ASID has taken part in the REGREEN Residential Remodeling Program, created to help homeowners renovate their homes to be more environmentally friendly.
