How to Convert Black & White Photographs to Color for Free
- 1). Upload the photographs you'd like to convert to black and white to your hard drive. Place them in a folder that is easy to locate, preferably the desktop. You can upload them by either taking them off your camera's memory card or, for older photographs, scanning them in with a flatbed scanner. If you don't have a scanner, take the photos to your local drug store and ask them to scan the photos in for you.
- 2). Open your favorite Web browser and go to TJSHome.com image editor. Select the "Black & White" process then click "Choose File..." to upload your picture from your computer. Click "Submit" for the image editor to convert your photo to black and white.
- 3). Navigate to Picnik.com and upload your photo. Click on the "Color" tab and move the saturation bar to the left to remove all color.
- 4). Download and install Google's free image editor program Picasa. Picasa will find and identify all of your photographs for you. Simply click on the photograph you'd like to change, click on the "Effects" tab and choose the black and white option.
- 5). Save your photographs as copies or they will cover the original color scans. Click "File" and choose "Save As." You can save under the photographs original name just add BW to the end to notate it is a black and white copy.
