Hiding the Goods Helps Protect Your Home

54
Burglars are interested in one thing when they enter a home, to get as much valuable stuff as possible in as little time as possible.
Aside from the more obvious goods like the television and stereo, burglars are looking for the most portable items with the highest value, such as jewelry and cash.
While there probably are not too many people out there who keep all of their money under their mattress anymore, people still have some valuables in their home.
In case a person's home security system does not work or a burglar finds a way past it, people should know where the best places to hide their stuff is.
Now one of the most obvious answers to this is a safe.
Having a safe where a person can store valuable goods is a great idea, but they should make sure that the safe is bolted to the ground so that the intruder cannot simply carry it out and work on opening it somewhere else at their own leisurely pace.
Having a hidden safe is another good idea, whether it is a bookcase of a painting since this lowers the chances of a burglar finding it.
If the home alarm system does go off and the intruder decides to make a go of it anyways, they will most likely be tearing through the house on a rampage, looking for anything of monetary worth.
Whether they are in a hurry or taking their time, burglars will tear the house apart if they are having a difficult time finding money or valuables.
To avoid having the home torn to pieces, it might be a good idea to leave some kind of money in a fairly easy to find place.
This will appease the intruder and perhaps stop them from finding the more substantial amount elsewhere in the house and it increases the chances that the home will be left in reasonable condition.
If someone wants another layer of protection for their money besides the home security system they can try hiding money in some of their children's toys.
Children do not tend to have money so a burglar will most likely not bother checking their room.
The mess that is usually found in a child's room is also a big deterrent because it means exerting that much more effort.
For valuable items it is a good idea to hide them and then have an envelope labeled "Bank Safe Deposit Box" and a list of items in it.
This will make an intruder think that the homeowner has stashed their valuables in a safety deposit box rather than in the home.
The bank is of course the best place for a person to protect their money but for those who like to keep some cash at home, the combination of a home security system and some clever hiding skills could keep them one step ahead of any burglar.
It is important that if someone chooses to hide money and valuables around the house that they tell their spouse or a good friend so that someone else knows.
In case of an accident or random discovery it is good to have someone else in on the idea so there are not any surprises or random mysteries.
Clever hiding is just one of many ways to add layers of home security beyond an alarm.
