Three Popular Types of Central Heating Boilers

9
It is not surprising that there are currently a number of types of sought-after central heating boilers. Those come in various sizes and shapes. You could choose between high-output monoliths and compact or small boilers that could easily fit even in a small kitchen cupboard space. It may be confusing to choose which type is appropriate for your needs and requirements.

All types of such boilers come with their own sets of advantages and disadvantages. Some could be vastly different. Others only differ aesthetically. Many are costly, while some are logically reasonable. There are boilers that could run on oil, gas, or electricity. Depending on what are required, these are the most common or most popular types of central heating boilers that you could find and buy in the market.

Combination boilers are the most popular or most common type available in the market today. The popularity of this furnace is quite logical. The best feature of such boilers is convenience. This type heats water required around the home for taps and from within the unit, combined with a central heating system. Thus, it does not need a cold water tank or even a separate water cylinder so that hot water cost would be lower. Its only setback is that hot water produced could be less compared to any boiler that has a water cylinder.

Wall mounted boilers are gaining equal popularity. This type is also compact. Lighter heat exchangers are created using ideal materials like stainless steel, lightweight cast iron, aluminum or copper. Such central heating boilers come with fitted system by-pass, which facilitates filtration of water. Many households prefer this type because it produces less noise or minimal "kettling".

Condensing boilers are often considered because of the efficiency it brings. Such type facilitates "heat exchange", which allows high temperature or heat to be effectively re-circulated instead of lost as the boiler operates. Thus, condensing boilers are usually chosen if there is a requirement for an energy efficient furnace. However, its pluming effect (happening in the flue terminal) is often inappropriately mistaken for steam. Pluming is a result of condensation of water producing droplets that are suspended throughout the flue, which could be a total nuisance to users.

The conventional old back boilers are commonly installed in the fireplace. These are still available although modern building regulations advice against choosing such furnaces. The open flue is a main setback making such boilers costly, dangerous, and less functional. You may consider other types of central heating boilers instead of the back boiler type.

Which of these central heating boilers meet your requirements and purpose? Always consider the size, storage, efficiency and cost when choosing specific types and models of such furnace. Boilers need not be costly. If you would have more time and effort to scout the market, there is no reason to get surprised that there are just enough options available. You should choose the type you would buy and install in your home or office carefully.
