Historic Hangout in Rio

50
Opened in 1953, Casa Villarino is famous for being the hangout where Vinicius de Moraes and Tom Jobim, partners in writing "Garota de Ipanema", were first introduced by journalist Lúcio Rangel.

The casual bar and delicatessen in Historic Downtown Rio de Janeiro is also said to be the place where the term "bossa nova" was coined. A popular stop for intellectuals, artists and musicians in the 1950s, the bar has stayed up-to-date and has recently branched out as a bistro next to the Municipal Theater.

One of the highlights of the ambience is a photographic panel depicting some of the bar's illustrious patrons. The front of the bar is a deli selling Parma ham and other fine specialties.

The menu includes lunch specials such as chicken stroganoff, codfish, roast pork, roast beef and squid. There are many other entrées served a la carte.

At night, choose from several types of appetizers, including products from the deli, to go with whisky, Cerpa beer and caipirinhas.

Visa and Mastercard are accepted.
