How to Install a Car Radio in an Avalon

    • 1). Set the head of the nylon pry bar between the dashboard and the small piece of trim just to the left of the gauge cluster and above the vent. Pull back the pry bar to remove the trim piece. Pull off the interior panel with the ignition located to the right of the piece you just removed with both hands. Set the piece to the side. Pull off the panel around the radio using your hands, and if necessary, using the nylon pry bar to pop off the panel.

    • 2). Unbolt the stock stereo from the dashboard using the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Pull it out of the dash and turn it around to unplug the wiring to the deck.Set the deck to the side. Install the dash kit to the dashboard using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Install the cage from the new stereo into the dash kit using the flat-head screwdriver.

    • 3). Use the wire strippers to remove the shielding on the ends of the wires on both the vehicle-specific wiring harness and the wiring harness from the new stereo. Find the matching colors on each harness and connect them together using a blue butt connector and the wire crimpers.

    • 4). Plug the new harness you made in step 3 into the back of the aftermarket stereo. Plug the other end of the harness through the cage and onto the harness you removed from the stock stereo in step 2. Slide the stereo into the cage.

    • 5). Reinstall the dash trim, starting with the panel around the radio, then the panel near the steering column and ignition, and finish with the small panel.
