Ortho-McNeil Grants
- The company awards grants to health care providers to support continuing education. There are three grant categories as well as one fellowship available. The grants are awarded for both accredited and non-accredited continuing education, as well as patient-education programs. The fellowship funds are awarded to support institutions that have such programs for medical studies. Travel awards are also granted by the company to allow physicians and researchers to attend conferences and further their professional development.
- Grants are awarded to specific programs targeted at health-care professionals. Applicants must demonstrate the educational benefit of a program, furnish a timetable of events and a detailed budget. The programs must follow the FDA's guidelines for educational activities as well as meet the criteria of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education Standards for Commercial Support, the American Medical Association Ethical Guidelines for Gifts to Physicians from Industry, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America Code on Interactions with Health Care Professionals and the AdvaMed Code of Ethics for Interactions With Health Care Professionals.
- The company makes charitable contributions on both a regional and national level. Regionally, the company supports nonprofit organizations near its headquarters: Mercer, Somerset, and Hunterdon counties in New Jersey and Bucks County in Pennsylvania. The donations are made to organizations that provide services in one or more of the following focus areas: education, the arts, culture and environment, social services, health-care access and disease control. On a national level, the company makes charitable donations to institutions that provide access to health care or promote women's health. Assistance is given to specific programs and events or as a disaster recovery response.
- Employee volunteer programs are also encouraged by the company. Groups are often formed to help a specific charity. For example, teams have been organized to help with Habitat for Humanity projects and the Mercer County Catholic Youth Organization. Other employees have donated their time to Big Brothers/Big Sisters organizations, the United Way and area soup kitchens.
