Latchhook Directions

    • 1). Cut or purchase lengths of yarn for the desired finished length of the hooked yarn. Subtract a 1/2 inch from the cut yarn length and divide the remainder in half to figure the length of your finished hooked length. A 3-inch length of cut yarn will give you a finished hooked length of 1 1/4 inches.

    • 2). Place the latch hook canvas in front of you. Each cut yarn length will be attached to the horizontal bars only. Choose a yarn color for the bar you are hooking. Kits may have colors preprinted on the canvas for easy reference, or your design may have a graph diagram with color placement noted. Hold the latching hook in your right hand. Fold the yarn in half around the arm of the hook and under the hinged latch. Hold the ends of the yarn together with the fingers of your left hand.

    • 3). Insert the latching hook in the square below the bar and up through the square above it. Push the hook until the hinged latch pops through the top square.

    • 4). Flip the latch open. Pull the latching hook back with the hinged latch laying over the horizontal bar. Use your left hand to lay the yarn ends over the latching hook, between the hook and the hinged latch.

    • 5). Pull the latching hook backward. This will close the hinged latch over the yarn. Continue to pull the hook back and out the same square that it was first inserted. This will pull the ends through the yarn that was first folded in half over the hook.

    • 6). Tug on the yarn ends to tighten the latch.
