How to Get Rid of Saturation in a Video
- 1). Make a new project in your chosen video-editing program, then import your video to the project.
- 2). Drag the video clip that appears on the "Import" or "Video Clip" window onto the "Editing Timeline," the area where the actual editing happens. Although the names of the commands, buttons and windows -- as well as their locations within the editing interface -- vary by program, all the editing programs feature similar, if not identical, tools and functions.
- 3). Click the dragged video clip on the "Editing Timeline" to highlight it. Select the "Saturation" function in your editing program. You can oversaturate, undersaturate or entirely get rid of the video's saturation. Depending on the program used, the "Saturation" option typically appears together with similar image-altering functions under the "Video Adjustments" menu. You can either replace the value on the space provided or drag the sliding bar to the left or right. Usually, getting rid of the saturation would mean putting a value of "0" or sliding the bar to the farthest left.
Alternatively, you can select the "Color Correction" function, if this is available in your editing program. This function uses a visual interface that has a couple of circles with prism-like colors around it. You can alter the visual attributes of a highlighted clip by moving the small ball located at the center of the circle, then directing it elsewhere within the circle, specifically toward a color or effect. Usually there is a dedicated circle that allows you to change the video's saturation. - 4). Check your program's "Preview Monitor" to see the effect of the change you made on your video. You can also play back your video continuously using this monitor. Most editing programs utilize the keyboard's space bar as a shortcut key to play the video clip in your "Editing Timeline."
