How to Do Wiggly Crochet
- 1). Draw a grid on a piece of paper. Each grid line represents one bar of the mesh. If this is your first wiggly crochet project, you may want to start with a square.
- 2). Decide how many different colored yarns you want to use in your pattern. For best effect, use at least two different colors. Select a colored marker to represent the yarn in your pattern diagram.
- 3). Draw a pattern over your grid with the colored markers. This shows you where on the mesh you will be making your wiggly crochet stitches. Each bar that is covered with marker will be covered with a group of double crochet stitches in your project, made with the color yarn that corresponds to that color marker. Keep in mind that continuous lines of color will be easier to crochet later. Keep the pattern simple and use the different colors to add visual interest.
- 1). Make a base chain of as many stitches as you need to get the desired width. You will need an even number.
- 2). Turn and chain four.
- 3). Make a double crochet stitch into the fourth chain from the hook.
- 4). Chain two.
- 5). Skip the next two stitches.
- 6). Make a double crochet stitch into the next stitch.
- 7). Continue to make your mesh by chaining two, skipping two stitches and making a double crochet stitch, ending with a double crochet stitch in the first base chain. This is row one.
- 8). Turn and chain four.
- 9). Repeat row one until the project reaches the desired length.
- 1). Make a slip stitch around one of the base bars to join your yarn. The base bars are the double crochet or chains in your mesh.
- 2). Chain three. This counts as the first double crochet stitch.
- 3). Make three double crochet stitches around the same bar.
- 4). Turn your work.
- 5). Make four double crochet stitches around the next bar in your pattern.
- 6). Continue to make groups of four double crochet stitches around different base bars as indicated in your pattern.
