How to Remove & Control Your Lice With a Shampoo
- 1). Shampoo your hair according to the directions on the treatment packaging. Lice shampoos are available over the counter and effective at killing the tiny insects.
- 2). Towel-dry your hair to remove excess water. Leave the hair wet, not soaking.
- 3). Hold your head over a bowl to catch any lice or eggs that may fall while you're working.
- 4). Divide your hair into four equal sections with two in the front and two in the back. You will be starting with the front, so clip all but one section up and out of your way.
- 5). Separate a 1-inch piece of hair from your first section. Grasp the hair in one hand and the lice comb in the other.
- 6). Place the comb into the hair as close to your scalp as possible. Slowly comb the hair from root to tip. As you comb, allow any nits to fall into the bowl. You may need to comb the section again if you still notice nits in the hair.
- 7). Wipe the comb with a tissue to remove the nits and discard the tissue.
- 8). Continue combing all of the sections until your entire head is complete.
- 9). Dump the contents of the bowl and discard. Wash with boiling water before reusing.
