1987 Chevy C10 Grill Conversions
- Standard billet replacement grills for your 1987 Chevrolet C10 are some of the most easily installed and affordable grills you can purchase. These grills are composed of numerous horizontally oriented stainless steel or aluminum billet bars. To install these bars, simply bolt them in place over the top of the truck's original grill. Some grills require the removal of the original grill, and this can be done using a standard screwdriver. The benefits of an aluminum billet as opposed to stainless steel is that you can continually paint and sand the surface of the bars without doing significant harm to the grill itself. It can be modified for years as your taste changes. Stainless steel grills, on the other hand, have the benefit of being much more resistant to damage from rock chips and staining.
- Phantom grills for the Chevrolet C10 are constructed in a similar fashion to billet and stainless replacement grills, but with one big difference. Rather than covering just the original grill of the truck, phantom grills extend all the way to the fenders, covering the headlights and turn signals of the truck as well. This gives the truck's front end a much simpler, cleaner look. The phantom grills do not block the light from the headlights or turn signals, and they mount to the truck, utilizing the stock C10 grill's mounting points.
- During the course of the C10's 14 year production life, the original equipment grill was changed numerous times to update the front end of the truck. What didn't change was the original mounting points for those grills. This means that any grill which was created for the 1973 to 1986 C10 will fit into the grill opening of the 1987 Chevrolet C10. For a fresh look, take the 1987 C10 old school by installing a reproduction earlier model grill. Restoration quality grills are available from numerous manufacturers, and are usually priced similarly to replacement billet grills.
- For a completely over-the-top look, it's possible to install cut out grills onto the front of your C10. Cut outs come in literally hundreds of different designs, ranging from skulls to stars, and every shape in between. You can also contract with a machining shop to cut out a completely custom grill of your own design. When doing so, it is necessary to remember to allow air flow past the grill and into the engine compartment.
