How to Paint a Fireplace With Floetrol
- 1). Remove all decorative items and accessories on and around the fireplace.
- 2). Dip a rag in a bucket of water, wring it and use it to wipe away cobwebs, soot and other debris on the fireplace. Don't worry about stains because you will cover them with the paint.
- 3). Apply painter's tape on the edges of the fireplace at the point where the fireplace meets the wall. This tape prevents you from getting paint on the wall.
- 4). Use a 2-inch angled brush to paint an oil-based primer all over the fireplace. This prevents any stains from bleeding through the paint.
- 5). Mix a small amount of Floetrol with a latex paint and stir thoroughly. Apply the color to a hidden area of the fireplace to check whether you like the color and whether the color goes on well.
- 6). Mix 1/2 to 1 pint of Floetrol additive for every gallon of latex paint in a paint tray. Thick paint in extreme temperatures usually needs more Floetrol to help it flow properly. Stir the mixture thoroughly.
- 7). Slip on a nappy cover on your paint roller. The nappy cover allows you to apply even coats of paint on textured surfaces.
- 8). Dip the roller in the paint tray and roll it back and forth to remove excess paint. Apply the paint all over the fireplace and let it dry. Apply more coats until you get the color saturation that you want.
