How to Repair a Laptop Jack
- 1). Turn the laptop computer over and use the screwdriver to remove all of the screws from the back of the laptop. Place the screws into different paper or plastic cups based on their size. This will help you to keep them from getting mixed up or getting lost.
- 2). Remove the hard drive housing. Use the screwdriver to remove the screws holding the hard drive in place.
- 3). Remove the battery pack from the back of the laptop. This is a simple step. Locate the latch and slide it to the side to pop the battery out. Place the battery in a safe location.
- 4). Unlatch the screen and carefully pull up to remove it from the body. You do not have to disconnect the wires that are connected to the screen, just pull up and detach the screen from the computer to get it out of the way and then put it to the side of the computer.
- 5). Pull the body of the computer apart and remove the keyboard from the computer. There should be some type of metal strip just above the keyboard you will need to unscrew. Once you pull the keyboard up from the laptop, do not disconnect the wires.
- 6). Locate the power jack on the outside of the computer and then follow it until you find the metal piece attached at the end that plugs into the motherboard.
- 7). Use needle nose pliers or tweezers and carefully place the metal end of the jack back on the motherboard. Take some glue and glue it in place. Hold the piece there for at least a minute to make sure that the glue has bonded properly.
- 8). Reassemble your laptop computer. Make sure you place all the right sized screws in the appropriate places. Plug your adapter into your computer and into the wall outlet and test it to make sure it works properly.
