Doctors from New Zealand and Australia are already considering joining Southland because of the high pay ($110 per hour) plus perks.
According to what was found there was an email that was sent from locum doctor recruitment agency sent on behalf of the Southland District Health Board that mentioned that applications for the above pay were accepted from March to August.
There were any times before when the same crisis took place in Southland.
The offer is too good to resist and also offers return airfares from anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.
Skiing doesn't have to be your only option.
You will be able to go for surfing, mountain biking, tramping, mountain climbing and kayaking through the hospital according to the email.
You are able to raise the hourly rate.
As disclosed by the Southland District Health Board chief operating officer operating about 4 junior doctors were required.
There were a lot of recruitment agencies that had been approached to find them junior locum doctors for $110 per hour.
The email clearly stated that there would be free ski passes but she did not notice that.
The permanent doctors do not get paid as much as locum doctors said the New Zealand Resident Doctors Association secretary.
A new doctor is paid about $25 while an old one is paid about $30 for a minimum service of 60 hours per week.
Each permanent doctor is said to be given about $45 an hour for over time.
These doctors were not even considered for the locum offers.
The fact remains that Southland is giving a lot to the locums.
Just to encourage them work, the permanent staff were given a reward instead of the higher paying locum job.
The offer of the union for help was not taken seriously by the district health board.
According to this man who was a former member of Southland Hospital junior doctor delegate, there were a lot of issues between the Resident Doctors Association and district health boards.
Money was spent like water but no one cared for attrition in those days.
The reason why the managing director says he is not speaking about this issue is because of the confidentiality rules by the agency.
