How to Fish for Sheepshead
- 1). Locate an appropriate place to fish such as a pier, bridge, seawall or anywhere with accumulated growth of crustaceans such as barnacles and oysters.
- 2). Slide the smallest weight that can be used (determined by the current) onto the fishing line.
- 3). Tie the fishing line to the swivel.
- 4). Tie a fluorocarbon leader 18 inches long to the swivel, then tie the hook to the leader.
- 5). Bait the hook and drop the line all the way to the bottom of the sea floor.
- 6). Retrieve the line slowly, by pulling up on the rod tip slowly and reeling as you lower it. If you feel any resistance on the line when lifting the rod tip, stop lifting and count to 4 giving the fish time to take the hook. Set the hook with a quick flip of the rod tip to hook the fish.
- 7). Reel the fish to the surface, making sure that the drag is loose enough that the line does not snap.
- 8). Use a net to remove the fish from the water and remove the hook from its mouth with the pliers.
