How to Install an HD Car Radio
- 1). Lift the vehicle's hood and disconnect the grounding cable from the negative battery terminal. Use an adjustable wrench or pliers to loosen the cable's clamp and move the cable completely away from the battery.
- 2). Remove the factory stereo. Consult the vehicle's repair manual for exact instructions.
- 3). Unplug the stereo wiring connected to the back of the stock radio.
- 4). Unplug the vehicle's FM antenna cable from the back of the stock unit.
- 5). Slide the installation sleeve or faceplate adapter (depending on vehicle make and model) into the stereo dock. Push the sleeve into the opening until it snaps into place. Fold down the metal tabs near the front of the sleeve with a flat screwdriver or other flat tool.
- 6). Plug the stereo wiring into a wiring harness adapter. The adapter will make the wiring compatible with the outlets on the back panel to the HD radio unit.
- 7). Plug the wiring harness adapter leads into the back panel of the new HD radio unit. Plug the antenna cable into the radio. Use an aftermarket antenna adapter for GM vehicles.
- 8). Slide the HD radio receiver into the installation sleeve and push it into the dock until it locks into place on both sides.
- 9). Complete the installation by replacing any dash panel that was removed to take off the factory stereo. Consult the vehicle's repair manual for precise instructions. Return to the engine compartment.
