How to Crochet a Backpack Flap
- 1). Crochet a foundation chain of 42 chain stitches. The final two chain stitches serve as the turning chain for row one.
- 2). Yarn over and insert the hook into the second chain from the hook for row one. Yarn over one more time and pull the yarn through all three loops on the hook. Continue working one single crochet stitch into each chain stitch of the foundation chain.
- 3). Repeat row two, increasing one additional stitch on both ends, until the backpack flap measures 7 inches long. At its widest point, the flap should measure 11 1/5 inches wide.
- 4). Work one half-double crochet decrease on both ends for the final 3 inches of the backpack flap. The flap should be gently rounded at the bottom. When the backpack flap measures 10 inches vertically, fasten off and cut the yarn with the scissors. Neatly weave in all ends with the tapestry needle.
