Is Your Head in the Sand?

This weekend I thought long and hard about what I do.
It can be very frustrating when people place less importance on their futures than their insurance/financial services agent does.
Yet time and time again I see this happening.
Every day we (agents) see failures and disasters in families that could have been prevented with a little planning.
From the father/mother/spouse disabled or killed from an accident to the father/mother/spouse that has a stroke or finds out they have a critical illness.
Sunday I attended a BBQ for a client that barring a supernatural healing from God has only 6 months to live.
This client and I have discussed life insurance, long term care insurance or even critical illness insurance for several years.
We have reviewed all the long term needs they have and nothing has ever been done.
The client always had an excuse why they needed to wait another year or two.
Even with a family history of cancer this client put things off.
Now the spouse will be left with debt, loss of income and loss of their best friend.
As an agent/friend I am starting to realize I may have been to passive as well.
Afraid to offend anyone I have backed off to many times when maybe the right thing to do was press the issue.
I may have lost a few clients but at least I would have given it my best shot.
I am tired of people saying "That will never happen to me" I see this happen all the time.
Maybe not to all my clients but like any other profession we agents/brokers talk about our problems.
We don't give names but we do share our war stories.
Guess what they are all the same.
"I tried to show them their life insurance/long term care insurance or health insurance needs and they put me off".
Now someone is dying or dead and the family is asking how they have been cared or provided for.
Today my challenge to you is "Get your head out of the sand".
Take just a few minutes of your time to meet with your insurance/financial services agent to find out what they offer and what you may need to protect you and your family.
We don't make suggestions based on our own needs.
Most of us have everything we share with you.
We make suggestions based on information you provide, and to help you meet your short term and long term needs.
What we show you is based on fact not fiction.
As I told a client a few years ago, I don't sell anything.
That is not necessarily my job.
My job is to find help clients find solutions to their needs and help them make an educated decision.
