Court Reporting Classes and Schools: How to Find a School for Court Reporting

44
The career of a court reporter is one that is growing in scope and availability thanks to the needs of a growing population.
This field does not get a lot of publicity as one of the most attractive to have but it can be very attractive to those looking to earn a respectable and honest wage.
To be able to get in to this field you must be certified, meaning you must pass a test, which in turn means that you must educate yourself in the ways of the court reporter.
Here are a few ways for you to go about finding a school that will educate you in the ways of the court reporter:
  1. Go to the source themselves and make a trip down to the local courthouse or town hall in your city.
Ask around for where the court reporters are or if you cannot find them ask if anyone knows how they are certified.
Try to find out if they found their classes online or if they managed to attend a local school of some type.
  2. Contact an attorney's office that you are close to or have a personal contact with and find out what they know about court reporters.
You may not get a lot of in-depth information, but these people do come in contact with court reporters regularly and may offer to ask around for you.
You never know until you ask so it doesn't hurt to do so.
  3. Searching online by yourself can be just as fruitful as any of the options listed above because you are in charge of your search.
You don't have to wait on anyone else to work because you are going to do it and you are going to find the classes.
Just remember to verify that they are legit before paying off your hard earned cash.
There is nothing worse than thinking you are certified only to find out you have been taken.
  4. Call around to local colleges and technical institutes to see if they offer the courses you are looking for or if they know who might be doing this.
These people have invested their lives in a field that requires for them to be helpful with people so they will likely tell you what they know.
If you happen to find one that does offer the courses don't just sign up with the first one, ask what you need to know and offer to call back when you are ready.
