Dice Games

• The double-digit dice game is a good way to get young players adding or subtracting numbers with double digits. Have students roll two dice, each a different color. One color is the tens column, the other is the ones. Write the number down. Roll the dice again and have the students add or subtract that number from the previous number. Yahtzee is another great dice game. This game teaches addition, subtraction, multiplication and place value. It can also help with strategy.
  
  

Playing Card Games

• Uno is a great math learning game. Throughout the game, players match numbers or colors to get rid of their hand as quickly as possible. Winners of each round count their score by adding all the values of the cards left in play. War is a somewhat simple game based mostly on luck, but can teach greater than/smaller than values. Games such as pinochle, in which combinations of cards have a set value, are good for teaching students addition and subtraction. In pinochle, players are forced to strategize by figuring out how much they can wager based on how much they have in their hand. This is all done in the player's head, making it even more difficult.
  
  

Money Games

• The most popular money game to date is, of course, Monopoly. In this game players must add and subtract money. Utilizing a varied field of numbered bills, players must add different bills to total their earnings or losses. Players will also learn to count back change. Another good money game is Life. Much like Monopoly, Life players need to add and subtract their earnings and losses.

• Game systems such as V-Smile and LeapFrog specialize in educational software. You can find many math games that feature favorite cartoon characters or superheroes. These games teach everything from counting to division and multiplication and even fractions and percentages.
  
  

Scrabble

• Scrabble is a wonderful game for students. Not only is it a vocabulary word game, a player must also add and multiply scores each turn.
