How to Kill Red Ants Naturally for Free

8
    • 1). Locate the red-ant mound or nest. If you notice the red ants migrating in areas outside of a mound, follow their trail to determine where they are coming from.

    • 2). Place the clay flower pot, facing upward, over the mound for two days to encourage the ants to migrate to the surface with their larvae. This will enable you to kill more of the ants at one time. If the red ants are not in a mound, skip this step and proceed to Step 3.

    • 3). Boil three gallons of water. If you have multiple fire-ant mounds or nests, you will need three gallons for each one.

    • 4). Make a hole in the top of the red-ant mound with the stick. The hole will permit the hot water to reach deep into the mound, killing any red ants that remain under the surface. If the red ants are not in a mound, skip this step and proceed to Step 5.

    • 5). Pour the hot water down the hole you created in the mound or directly on the nest. Pour slowly to avoid scalding yourself. Repeat this step in 24 hours to kill any ants that may have survived.

    • 6). Let the area dry.

    • 7). Place cayenne pepper, fresh mint or used coffee grounds on the area to repel red ants.
