    Potpourri Recipe

    • Lavender is a popular scent that can be used in a variety of ways, such as sachets. To make lavender potpourri, you will need about 1 cup of oak moss, 1 teaspoon of lavender essential oil, 1 cup of lavender buds and 1/2 cup of chamomile flowers. In a bowl, mix the moss and the lavender oil together and let it sit for about 30 minutes in order for the moss to soak up the oil. Mix the lavender buds and chamomile flowers together before adding the mixture to the moss and oil. Mix the ingredients well and store in resealable plastic bags until you're ready to use the potpourri.

Holiday pine scented potpourri is an ideal blend for use in gifts made using mason jars or plastic ornaments. To make pine scented potpourri you will need approximately one cup of bark and/or moss, one teaspoon of pine fragrance oil, one quarter cup of rosemary leaves, one cup of miniature pine cones or a few large pine cones, one half cup of rose hips and one half cup of red and green flower petals and leaves of choice. Mix the pine oil with the moss and/or bark and allow to sit until the oil is absorbed. Mix the remaining ingredients, add to the oil/moss mixture and store in resalable baggies until ready for use.

    No-Sew Sachet

    • To make potpourri sachets, you will need a handkerchief, a piece of tulle or cotton fabric, ribbon or twine, a rubber band and 1/2 cup of potpourri. Lay the fabric flat on a table, pour the potpourri mix into the center of the fabric, gather up the ends of the fabric and wrap a rubber band around the fabric to secure it and to prevent the potpourri from falling out. To finish the sachet, tie a colorful ribbon around the rubber band.

    Colorful Potpourri Ornament

    • To make potpourri ornaments, you will need clear, hollow plastic ornaments -- usually available at craft and/or department stores -- about 1/2 cup of potpourri for each ornament and ribbon or twine. Remove the top from the ornament and fill with potpourri. Replace the top and tie a ribbon to the top of the ornament to hang it.

    Lighted Potpourri-Filled Mason Jar

    • This potpourri gift will release the aroma of potpourri when the Christmas lights heat up and begin to warm it. To make a lighted mason jar, you will need a large-mouth mason jar, a small strand of Christmas lights (the kind typically used for crafts), potpourri, a rubber band, ribbon, a doily or piece of fabric and a glue gun. If using fabric, lay the fabric flat and place a saucer on the fabric, trace the saucer and cut out the circle. Arrange the lights and the potpourri in the mason jar, leaving the plug toward the top of the jar. Place the fabric or doily over the opening of the mason jar and secure it with a rubber band. To finish it off, tie a piece of colorful ribbon around the mouth of the jar to cover the rubber band.

    Packaged Potpourri Gifts

    • To make packaged potpourri, you will need cellophane bags -- such as the small favor bags used for party treats -- about 1 cup of potpourri, a rubber band, ribbon and a decorative bowl, if desired. Pour the potpourri into the cellophane bag, attach the rubber band and tie a piece of ribbon around the rubber band. If desired, for an additional decorative look, place the bag of potpourri in a decorative bowl before wrapping it.
