How to Make Christmas Tree Bulbs With Styrofoam Balls & Fabric
- 1). Gather Styrofoam balls in as many sizes as you want. Using a variety of sizes on a Christmas tree is visually appealing. Begin with a 4-inch ball and adjust the measurements accordingly.
- 2). Cut a square of fabric 16 inches by 16 inches. This project is perfect for using fabric scraps. This square of fabric will be used to cover the entire 4-inch Styrofoam ball. Set the ball in the center of the fabric, and gather the fabric around the ball, smoothing out wrinkles as you work the fabric up toward the top of the ball. Tie the fabric together using a 6-inch length of ribbon.
- 3). Cut two fabric strips that are each about 3/4-inch wide and 18 inches long. For a more organic look, rip the fabric to expose frayed edges. Use contrasting fabrics for the strips that complement the large piece of fabric that covers the entire ball.
- 4). Place the strips of fabric right sides down on a table, forming a cross or letter "T." Set the fabric-covered ball on top of the center of the cross or T. Pull the fabric strips up to the top and gather the four ends. Tie a second ribbon around the top, securing the two fabric strips at the top.
- 5). Form a loop to hang on the tree with the second ribbon. Double knot the ribbon and place a drop of glue on the knot to secure it. Let the glue dry completely, then decorate your tree with your newly made Christmas tree bulbs.
