Arizona Minimum Wage Law
- The Arizona Minimum Wage Act became effective on January 1, 2007, providing for a minimum wage of $6.75.
- The act calls for increases every January 1 based on the cost of living. The wage became $7.25 an hour in 2009 but is not expected to rise in 2010 due to a decline in the inflation rate.
- The law does not apply to someone working for a parent or sibling, babysitters working casually in someone's home, or employees of the state or federal government, or businesses making less than $500,000 that aren't covered by the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Those workers who typically receive tips may receive wages up to $3 an hour less than the minimum, if the employer can prove with actual records that the income plus tips is more than the minimum wage.
- Anyone can complain about violators to the Labor Department of the Industrial Commission. Employers are prohibited from retaliating against the informant.
