How to Mend a Broken Door Hinge
- 1). Remove the hinge screws with a screwdriver and lift the hinge off the cabinet. Draw marks for the screw holes on the cabinet with a pencil.
- 2). Dip four or five wood toothpicks into wood glue and make sure they are thoroughly covered. Push as many toothpicks as necessary into the screw holes. Allow the glue to dry. Break off the toothpicks with your hand, so they are even with the edge of the door.
- 3). Drill new holes into the toothpicks using an electric drill and a drill bit that is the correct size for the screw holes. Line up the hinge openings with the screw holes you made and push the screws through the holes. Secure the screws with a screwdriver.
- 1). Add a roller catch to the door if the hinge is intact but the spring is broken.
- 2). Firmly press the roller part of a roller catch on the interior top edge of the door.
- 3). Create lines with a pencil to mark where the screw holes need to be for the roller catch. Drill pilot holes for the screws with an electric drill fit with the correct size bit. Attach the roller section of the roller catch to the cabinet with a screwdriver.
- 4). Hold the metal catch section of the roller catch against the interior top edge of the door. Add marks for the screw holes for the roller catch with a pencil.
- 5). Create pilot holes with a drill. Secure the roller catch by tightening the screws with a screwdriver.
