How to Remove Malware From a Website

19
    • 1). Scan your computer for viruses. Make sure to scan the computer that you used to create your website. Use anti-virus software that you don't usually use to make sure you catch any overlooked viruses. Also, change your password for your website or blog login.

    • 2). Update everything on your website to the latest version. By updating your scripts you're increasing the odds of your website being able to prevent hackers and potential malware.

    • 3). Check for malware using Firefox. Click the "View/Page Source" on your browser and check it over for random links. Look for links that lead to drug- or gambling-related or pornographic websites.

    • 4). Upload the original installation files if you're conducting your website from a blog platform, such as WordPress. This will overwrite the current files and hopefully wipe out the malware. Re-check the "View/Page Source" section of your Firefox browser to see if the dangerous links are gone.

    • 5). Use Google to see if your website is safe, protected and malware-free. You can do this by using the Google Safe Browsing Diagnostic Report. This utility can show you which pages of your website are infected. Unfortunately, it won't detail the type of malware that is infecting the pages.

    • 6). Run the online Norton Safe Web Tool to check your website for malware. If Norton finds that your website is infected with malware, it will tell you which specific files are infected as well as the type of malware that is attacking them.

    • 7). Submit a Malware Review Request with Google. Access the Google's Webmaster Tools to do this. Google can then scan the site to find out if the problem has been fixed. If Google finds that the site is clean, they will remove their warning when users try to access your site.
