You Could Make Your Exquisite Diamond Jewellery Glow

17
A glittering diamond ring, earring, pendant, or bracelet is a sight to behold. By playing with the light that shines on its facets, a diamond breathes with life and fire. Therefore, diamonds are safely and truly symbols of high class, victory, and strength over time.

The word "glittering" is the key. A diamond is just as gorgeous and lavish as its cleanliness and shine. Unfortunately, even a hard substance like a diamond can get a beating. A thin film of accrued oil, sweat, dust, and debris can form over the light-reflecting facets. Because of this dirty layer, reflected light is filtered, which makes the gemstone look lifeless, dull, and without fire. This dirt can be removed by regular scrubbing with warm soap, mild detergent, and a soft brush.

Finally, polishing the stone with a soft cloth will make it shine again. Well, you wish it was that simple.. Unfortunately, that layer of dirt can penetrate areas of the jewellery that can't be accessed by ordinary cleaning tools. A tough, irremovable crust of dirt may have emerged. If this is the case, then the jewellery may have to undergo ultrasonic cleaning.

Ultrasonic cleaning requires the ingenious use of ultrasound to blast off particles of dirt that has stuck to the diamond's facets. How does ultrasonic cleaning work? A dirt-filled piece of jewellery is lowered into an ultrasonic cleaning device filled with an aqueous solvent as cleaning fluid. Water can be used as cleaning fluid, but specialised solvents are preferred. To put it differently, the fluid is filled with substances, detergents, wetting agents, and other compounds to make it more efficient.

When the jewellery is safely suspended in the fluid, an ultrasonic transducer is placed in the fluid. The transducer generates ultrasonic waves in the fluid, initiating a process called oscillation. This action creates compression waves that “tear apart” the fluid, which produces millions of vacuum bubbles. These bubbles burst with incredible force, temperature, and pressure upon touching the jewellery. The force of the explosion have been known to measure about 20,000 pounds per square inch at temperatures of 5,000 Kelvin! Thankfully, the bubbles are so small that they can do no more than clean the jewellery piece. One can actually adjust the frequency; the higher the frequency, the smaller the bubbles which enables one to clean intricate, delicate, or extremely deep nooks in the piece.

Another benefit of ultrasonic cleaning is that the fluid that is used is extremely gentle, considering that it is "wetter" than water. This gentle solution, unlike detergents or harsh cleaners, do not damage the setting in which the diamond is affixed to. Thus, the jewellery owner does not need to worry about having his jewellery damaged or harmed.

Cleaning jewellery is not just the only purpose of ultrasonic cleaning. It is the preferred process in deep-cleaning other delicate objects such as lenses, watches, dental instruments, electronic equipment, and various jewellery like diamond wedding rings and stunning pieces of earrings. That's why the process is highly popular in weapons production, pharmaceuticals, electroplating, medical, automotive, and various other industries.

Make sure your elegant and fabulous rings are cleaned using ultrasonic cleaning to breathe life into it.
