Layered Flip Hairstyles
- If you have medium to short hair that you enjoy styling, you are a good candidate for a layered flip hairstyle. Adding layers--whether they are shaggy or blunt--will add more volume.
- Long hair also works for a layered flip hairstyle, although the flips will not be as pronounced; it will simply give your hair more sway and movement. If your long hair is cut into layers, you can flip both the longer and shorter pieces with a straightener or curling iron in order to add a little more pizazz to your style.
- Due to the ammonia in hair dye, colored or highlighted hair better retains styling products, and will therefore hold a curl or flip much better.
- If your hair is sparse and/or stringy, try adding extensions to achieve a fuller layered flip hairstyle. You can buy clip-in extensions from the beauty store and apply them yourself, or you can purchase sew-in or glue-in extensions and have them applied at a professional hair salon. If the extensions are made with human hair, they will flip more easily with a curling iron.
- Meg Ryan's hairstyle is synonymous with the layered flip hairstyle. CareFair suggests achieving this look by using a round brush, blow-dryer, mousse or gel and pomade.
