    • 1). Read picture books aloud to your child. Go to the library or bookstore and let your child pick out books he would like you to read to him. Sit in a quiet room and read a book while your toddler sits on your lap. Create different voices for characters in fiction books. Point out pictures and talk about them with your toddler.

    • 2). Dance with your toddler. Turn on the radio or play music while you hold hands and dance together. Let your toddler pick the music that he wants to listen to. Talk to your toddler about interesting sounds that you hear or talk about the different musical instruments with an older toddler.

    • 3). Tell your toddler that you're going to have a costume day at your house. Put on a costume. Present your toddler with several different costumes and let him choose which one to wear. Play make-believe while you and your toddler wear the costumes to encourage his creativity. Switch between several different costumes to let your toddler discover more new characters.

    • 4). Join your toddler when he plays with his toys. Let your toddler lead make-believe stories to enhance his creativity. Make stuffed animals or dolls speak in different voices. Talk to your toddler about the toys and ask him which toys are his favorites.

    • 5). Play a nickname game. Give your child a silly nickname and ask him to invent a nickname for you. Walk around your house together and give nicknames to household objects. Assign nicknames to family members, friends or pets. Take a stroll around the neighborhood and give nicknames to trees, flowers, houses or animals.
