Buying Baby Clothes
Baby clothes are some of the most fun clothing for which to shop. In fact, people love buying baby clothes so much that they actually find that they don't need to buy their own babies clothes because others keep giving them as gifts. However, baby clothes actually require some planning. In this article, I will discuss what you should consider when purchasing baby clothes.
Size
Babies grow, very fast. As a result, you should generally buy clothes that are a little bit too big for your child, rather than clothing that fits the baby right now. This is especially true for "infant" clothes, which your baby will outgrow almost right away (in fact, if you have a big baby, your baby may have outgrown them before they were born).
Be aware, too, that there are no regulations monitoring the sizes put on baby clothing. "0-3 months" may only fit a baby up to one month, or might not fit until four months. Have a close look at anything you buy, and bring some clothes with you to compare sizes (babies hate trying on clothes).
Seasons
In any temperate climate, there are large changes in seasons. Think about when you will need clothing to last until. For instance, if your baby was born in August, you'll want a snow suit that will last until eight months. Similarly, you can purchase some slightly oversized summer clothes in the spring, but you wouldn't want to in the late fall.
Color and Hand-Me-Downs
If you are hoping to have future children, you should also consider whether your future children will be able to wear the clothing you purchase. If, for instance, you dress your baby girl entirely in pink, you'll need to buy an entirely new set of clothing when your boy is born. It's great to have a few "girlie" or "baby boy" clothes, but if you want to reuse your clothes, make sure the bulk of your baby clothes don't have trucks or flowers on them. In general, girls can get away with wearing boy clothes easier than boys can get away with wearing girl clothes.
