How to Keep Mold Off of Plywood in a Doghouse
- 1). Build the dog house in a sheltered location. The dryer the dog house stays, the less likely mold will grow. Make sure the dog house still has plenty of ventilation for both the animal and the wood.
- 2). Place the dog house on a low platform. This will keep water from running into it and frost from forming on the bottom.
- 3). Change your dog's bedding once a week. Bedding absorbs moisture and can start to grow mold before any other surface. Wash bedding using hot water and your usual detergent in the washing machine. Dry it thoroughly. If you are using straw or hay as part of the bedding, replace it once a week.
- 4). Disinfect the dog house several times a year or more in damp climates. Use 1 cup of bleach in 1 gallon of water. Scrub all the plywood surfaces with the solution and allow it to dry thoroughly. Try to wash it on a warm, dry day so the doghouse can dry quickly.
