Clothes Airers - The Tipping Point
'An idea whose time has come' - A phrase or term used to explain a happening that was unforeseen.
An idea that sat often unused on the back burner before it leapt into performance.
How come we didn't think of it before? The clothes airer is one such product.
It started life in the front of the live wood burning fire.
No doubt clothes and especially woollens were full of burn holes as the sparks flew! It progressed to peat and coal fires and they created smelly smoke! Then there was the gas fire followed by the four bar electric fire.
Clothes airers were normally wooden.
The 'clothes horse' was a feature of everyone's lounge, piled high on washing days and filling homes with damp air.
The invention of the tumble dryer changed it all.
Suddenly the electric tumble dryer became the appliance of choice.
It seemed to present an immediate solution to our drying needs.
The weak points of the tumble dryer became clear with advancing global warming, more and more we are faced with the reality of melting glaciers and icebergs and changing in weather patterns.
Hailstorms in summer and hot days when we expect cold.
The clothes airer has come full circle.
It makes good sense to use, as it's a zero cost drying option.
It makes even better sense to become carbon neutral.
Use an appliance that does not directly use any fossil fuels.
Old king coal is used to fire power stations producing electricity and it is widely known they are less than 30% efficient.
So not only are we piling toxic gases into the atmosphere we only get 30% of clean energy for it.
Scientists say the in the next few years sea levels will rise a minimum of 6 feet around our coast.
That since it states it is virtually unstoppable, everything you can do now will hold off that tipping point.
That point when we slide into flooding and lose our low lying lands.
Take steps now to change the way you dry clothes and fit a clothes airer.
