Output Options for Encore CS4
- Adobe Encore CS4 offers three output options for projects: DVD quality, Blu-Ray quality and Flash quality. Each output option offers a different level of quality due to the compression and bitrate of the output. Bitrate is the speed at which video information is streamed. Blu-Ray is the highest quality Encore output, with encoding that enables high definition (HD) bitrate speeds (approximately 15 and 30-megabits per second). Flash is the second highest quality, though you cannot play Flash files in DVD or Blu-Ray players. Flash is intended for the Internet and data discs. The lowest quality, DVD, is for standard definition disc output. DVD files stream at approximately 8-megabits per second or less.
- Encore exports directly to either DVD or Blu-Ray disc. Adobe Encore users place a recordable Blu-Ray or DVD disc into the Blu-Ray or DVD burner of their computer and create the disc in the "Build" window of Adobe Encore. Users specify the copy protection for their disc, the name for the disc and the write speed. Encore burns the disc and "closes" it so it is playable in most DVD or Blu-Ray players.
- If you do not want to burn a disc from Encore, you can create a DVD or Blu-Ray output image for use at a later time. The output image is encoded and saved as if it were on a disc, but it exports to your computer. As with discs, you specify the write protection and file name for the output image. When you are ready to make a disc, drag the output image to the folder for an empty disc in your DVD or Blu-Ray recorder and burn the disc.
- Adobe Encore CS4 master output is intended for users who want to make many copies of their Encore DVD project. To use the master output selection, you have to connect a digital linear tape recorder to your computer. Digital linear tapes are different from the video cassette tapes used in VCRs. Digital linear tapes use digital signals, not analog. DLT tapes are better for making mass copies because the read speed of a DLT tape is higher than that of a DVD or Blu-Ray disc, resulting in faster copying speeds. Encore users select the export quality for their master output, put a digital tape into their recorder and press "Export." When the tape is done, it can be used with a mass DVD burner for multiple DVD copies.
- Encore "Folder Output" creates a DVD or Blu-Ray folder directly to your hard drive. This selection can be played by DVD or Blu-Ray software players on the computer. The folder contains all of the information necessary to make a disc at a later time, though you will need a DVD or Blu-Ray authoring program to do this. For example, if you want to make the disc at a later time, export the project as a folder and import it back to Encore when you are ready to make the disc. Because the DVD or Blu-Ray folder is already disc ready, Encore burns the disc immediately with no additional rendering time.
- The "Flash Output" option for Encore is intended for videos that you will upload to the Internet. Users that navigate to your webpage can click on the embedded Flash video for immediate playback. For websites built entirely with Adobe Flash, you can import your Flash video into the Flash project file.
