Baggage Regulations & Restrictions for American Airlines
- As of October 2010, passengers traveling within or between the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands can bring one carry-on bag at no extra charge, one personal item (such as a laptop or purse) at no charge and an unlimited number of checked bags for an additional charge. Charges are $25 for the first bag, $35 for the second bag, $100 each for the third, fourth and fifth bags, and $150 each for any additional bag.
- Checked bags flying within or between the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands must have a height, weight and width that is less than or equal to 62 inches total and a weight less than or equal to 50 pounds. Carry-on baggage must be less than 14 inches wide, 22 inches long and 9 inches high. Personal items including purses, laptops, diaper bags or other small items that have a length, height and width of less than 36 inches total allowed in the cabin (one per passenger) and should be stowed underneath the traveler's seat or in the overhead compartments
- Baggage can be checked the day of travel, up to 30 minutes prior to flight departure. Bags cannot be checked before the day of travel. The outside of your bag must be tagged with a badge displaying your name and address. Passengers must be present to give their baggage an airline representative for check-in.
