Modern Dermatology - Liposuction

10
There is no doubt that at some point you have heard of liposuction, and you may have a basic idea of what it is for, but what does it really do? That's actually a great question, so let's start by talking about the beginning of Liposuction.
It all started in France, in the year 1920.
A French surgeon by the name of Charles Duvalier found a way to remove fat from the body, and he tested his theories on a French model.
Unfortunately, our methods for stopping infection at that time were not quite as evolved, and it resulted in gangrene.
This was a setback for the medical world, but later on, the first true liposuction procedure was created in Rome, in the year 1974.
As you can see, the process has been perfected over many decades and there is generally nothing to fear.
Liposuction today can remove excess fat from several parts of the human body, and this dermatology procedure has helped many people over the years.
Then again, it has also been abused by many who simply see it as a way to avoid exercise.
On that note, liposuction is NOT a shortcut.
Not only is it expensive, it is a method that should be used as a last resort.
The most common liposuction procedure today is the Tummy Tuck, which is useful for those who have excess fat in the abdomen, excess skin, or are only slightly obese.
The idea behind the tummy tuck is to return the stomach area to it's original flat state.
Many women seek a tummy tuck after a pregnancy due to the fact that the skin will never return to normal on its own.
This is not a long procedure as it will only take around five hours.
The pain after the procedure however will last longer than that, and it can be quite severe.
There are painkillers to help reduce the pain, though you should speak to your dermatologist regarding the different types of painkillers and what would be best for you in your situation.
Liposuction is one of the miracles of dermatology.
It can transform a person in a matter of hours, making it popular in hospitals everywhere.
As for whether or not you should obtain a surgery of this type, only your dermatologist can tell you.
There are many questions that you will need to answer, and you will of course have to prepare yourself mentally.
Most importantly, remember that this is not a 'quick fix' that you can have done any time you please.
It IS a last resort, and once you lose that fat, you will have to work to keep it off.
So long as you understand this, you should be a great candidate for this procedure.
