Star Wars Costumes - Going With the Crowd
Star Wars is now over 30 years old and so almost everyone knows the movies and often has a favourite character.
You would think that this would make choosing Star Wars costumes for a party easy, but you would be wrong.
There are a multitude of characters to come as, but many people will choose similar outfits.
No point in being one of the crowd, now is there? Well, actually for some outfits being part of the crowd is the whole point as I hope to show you in this article.
Darth Vader, Obi Wan, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo and Chewbacca are all well known characters in the movies and there is a real temptation to wear a costume to look like one of these characters - but resist the Dark side! Going to a fancy dress party as a Jedi means basically that you will be turning up in a brown sack.
I am sorry but it is true.
Darth Vader is a bit better as there is a mask to wear and at least a long black cloak is stylish.
Why do bad guys get the best costumes? To be serious for a second, have you ever considered going to a Star Wars costume party in a stormtrooper outfit? The benefits might not be immediately obvious but first of all, it really is a proper fancy dress outfit - not just a sack.
Secondly if someone else comes to the party dressed in the same outfit you both look better.
In fact, if several dozen of you turn up in the exact same outfits it would actually look really great.
Imagine how cheesy it looks when a dozen Darth Vaders arrive for comparison and you can see what I am getting at.
The whole point of stormtroopers is that there were a lot of them.
Of course, if you want to suffer for your art you can go in a Wookie outfit.
Believe me when I say that you do not want to wear a furry suit for a long period of time, especially if that place is even remotely warm.
Of course Chewbacca represents only one of the many possible Star Wars costumes available, but you do have to live with your choice and the idea is to have fun.
So, if you are having difficulty choosing your Star Wars costumes, remember that sometimes going with the crowd is the right thing to do.
