    LinkedIn

    • LinkedIn is a directory of more than 100 million professional users. It is meant as a place to network with others in your field. Businesses have used it to find prospective clients and employees. According to the LinkedIn website, all of the Fortune 500 have a LinkedIn company page.

    Chamber of Commerce

    • Being a member of a Chamber of Commerce can be invaluable. Most local chambers list their membership directory online and have printed versions available for new members. The National Chamber of Commerce assists more than 3 million companies, of which 96 percent are considered small businesses by the U.S. government.

    State and Local Business Directories

    • State and local business directories are great places to have a business listed. This makes it easier for departments within the government to find vendors and service providers for what they need. In addition, some governments, such as the state of California, lists its certified small businesses on its website, giving the companies greater visibility to other potential customers.

    Google Places

    • Signing up for Google Places allows business owners to add video, audio and pictures and other information for free. It does offer some paid options such as Tagging, a service through which the business is marked on Google Maps, but the free options alone will allow a company be found during a Google search. Another great free feature is the ability to have a coupon on your listing.
