Hi, my name is Kate Samela welcome today. I'm the author of Give Peas a Chance the foolproof guide to feeding your picky toddler published by Source Books in 2013. Today we're going to be making a homemade mango smoothie for kids and this is a great choice for breakfast on the go. It's super high in fiber and it's really, really, really good source of antioxidants. So what we have is one very ripe mango. It's super soft so you can dent it. Your thumb will actually make a print in it. We have a half a cup of low fat one percent milk a container of the Stoneyfield Farm peach mango blended yogurt which adds a really nice kick, some ice and a little bit of the granulated table sugar. So when you're peeling a mango you want to make sure you start on each of the edges and then clean your knife. This is my favorite knife. People call it a bread knife but it's actually a utility knife. And it makes a nice clean slice for the mango. And don't worry about any of these little brown type spots that you may see because actually once it's blended you don't even really notice it. So the thing with the mango it has the core on the inside so you're technically shaving the fruit off the core and as you work through you can different pieces off of extra skin. My son loves mangoes. He eats one a day. And for kids, especially little kids who may be constipated or have trouble going to the bathroom, they down one of these in a day and they get almost a whopping six grams of fiber which is actually more than 50 percent of what a one to really ten year old would need in a day. So it's an easy way to get high fiber and it tastes delicious because it's super sweet. It's almost like candy. All right. So once you get all the meaty part off I'm almost there. You can kind of hear that noise maybe not I don't know but if you do you know you're getting close to the core. So do the best you can. And then you're just going to basically take your knife and work through and chop it in a couple small pieces. Don't really need to do too much of that because you have a blender with a blade. Sorry. Putting the mango in. Then we're going to follow it with ice and I have about probably 12 ice cubes in here. I'm going to put the whole container of this six ounce peach mango yogurt. And it's more mango than peach. But again another source of live active cultures which is really good for your digestive tract. And then your milk which is one percent milk. All in. This is just regular table sugar. People like to use honey in smoothies. I actually think table sugar blends finer. If you have raw sugar like that you can use it too but I do about just three little pinches I guess. People worry about sugar for your kids but the reality is it's so much less sugar than what you buy from a smoothie at a mall or something like that. I'm going to go ahead and crush this. I'm going to turn it on and do a blend. All right. Couple quick pulses. Going to take a look and see. Perfect. Can save some for yourself and add some pina colada to that. All right. Kids like things that are chunk free and that's the beauty of this. You don't have to worry about having it be too chunky. Sometimes for your adventurous one you can add a little bit of a strawberry to the top and possibly on the side and you're good to go. All right I'm Kate Samela author of Give Peas a Chance, the foolproof guide to feeding your picky toddler. I hope you really enjoy your smoothie and come back again.
