Open Your Opera 12 Browser

Saving links to our favorite websites within a browser is a convenience that most Web surfers tend to take advantage of. Known by different monikers depending on which browser you use, such as bookmarks or favorites, these handy references make our online lives much easier. If you have switched - or are planning to switch - to Opera 12, transferring these bookmarked sites from your old browser can be done in just a few easy steps.

This tutorial walks you through the process on the Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms.

First, open your Opera browser.

Linux users should skip directly to Step 6 at this point.

Mac users should skip directly to Step 10 at this point.

Manage Bookmarks (Windows)

Click on the Opera menu button, located in the upper left hand corner of your browser window. When the drop-down menu appears, hover your mouse cursor over Bookmarks. A sub-menu should now appear, as shown in the example above. Click on the Manage Bookmarks... option.

Please note that can you utilize the following keyboard shortcut in lieu of the aforementioned menu item: CTRL + SHIFT + B

File Menu (Windows)

Opera's Bookmarks Manager should now be displayed in a new tab. Click on the File menu, circled in the example above.

Choose a Browser (Windows)

The File drop-down menu should now be displayed, as shown in the example above. At this point you must select the option associated with your current browser. For the purposes of this tutorial, I have selected Import Firefox Bookmarks...

Select Bookmarks to Import (Windows)

A Windows Explorer pop-up should now be displayed, overlaying your main browser window. Locate and select the file, or folder in IE's case, containing your existing browser's bookmarks (also known as favorites). Next, click on the Open button.

Click on the Opera menu, located in the upper left hand corner of your browser window. When the drop-down appears, hover your mouse cursor over Bookmarks. A sub-menu should now appear, as shown in the example above. Click on the Manage Bookmarks... option.

Choose a Browser (OS X)

Click on Bookmarks in the Opera menu, located at the top of your screen. When the drop-down menu appears, select the Manage Bookmarks... option.

Please note that can you utilize the following keyboard shortcut in lieu of the aforementioned menu item: UP ARROW + COMMAND (APPLE) + B

Select Bookmarks to Import (OS X)

Opera's Bookmarks Manager should now be displayed in a new tab. Click on the File menu. At this point you must select the option associated with your current browser. For the purposes of this tutorial, I have selected Import Firefox Bookmarks...

An OS X Finder window should now be displayed, overlaying your browser. Locate and select the file containing your existing browser's bookmarks (also known as favorites). Next, click on the Select Bookmarks to Import button.
