    Sassy Halter Tee for Her

    • Select your T-shirt, get out your scissors and get ready to create. Select a shirt one size too small. Start by turning your shirt inside out. Remove both sleeves by cutting along the inside seam at the armhole. Set your removed sleeves aside. Lay your shirt face down on a clean flat surface. Starting at the bottom of the armhole on the left, cut a line across the back of the shirt to the bottom of the right armhole. You have now created a flap from the back of the shirt. Lift up the flap and cut directly up the center to the neck hole. Now you have created two wide square-shaped straps. Begin trimming your straps down by cutting the wide squared areas off, carefully angling your cut down to the neckline area. While cutting, imagine creating a long narrow triangle from your material. Continue to trim, little by little until your straps come to a point at the end. Your first attempts at trimming may not come well, but you will get better with practice. Put the remains of your shirt on. Tie your straps in front into a tight knot, essentially custom fitting your top. Pull the material around your body until snug. This will prevent the back from drooping and will help hide any undergarments you choose to wear with your outfit. Tie the remainder of the straps around your neck. Now you are ready to decorate your halter with iron-ons, paint or even embroidery. For a feminine look, pin small silk flower around the top edge or on the straps of your garment. For an edgier look, choose a medium-size star cut out, placed randomly. Use silver or gold fabric paint to decorate. Decorate your removed sleeves to match and wear as a head band, neck band or doubled up as a wrist band.

    Punk Shirt for Him

    • Select a shirt that fits well in the shoulder region and hangs closely to the body and purchase a sewing package of safety pins. Begin by turning your shirt inside out. Remove the sleeves from both sides of your garment by cutting along the inside seam between the body of the shirt and the sleeve itself. Once the sleeves are removed, remove the banded shirt neck, leaving a rag edge for the neckline. Starting at the bottom of your shirt, use your scissors to cut the side seams from the shirt. Cut completely up to the armholes and completely remove any double-seam threads from the material. Place your open-sided garment over your head. Pull your sides together and begin pinning the edges together with your safety pins. Overlap the material slightly to completely close the sides, or leave an open space for a bolder look. Remove your shirt and lay on a flat surface, face up with the neck closest too you. With your scissors, start at the right edge of the neckline and cut a line downward into the body of the shirt, approximately 4 inches. From the bottom of your cut, angle a new cut upward toward the left edge of the neckline, forming a triangle shape. You are now ready to decorate your shirt. You may choose to simply apply safety pins randomly around the front of the shirt or around the angled neck line.
