How to Upgrade Compaq Evo D300 Processors
- 1). Turn off the Compaq Evo D300 computer, and disconnect the power cable and any other cables or devices.
- 2). Push on the quick-release buttons on each side of the front panel. Slide the top cover off the desktop assembly until the interior components of your computer are completely exposed. Set the top panel out of the way.
- 3). Remove the Phillips screws attaching the heat sink assembly to the motherboard. The heat sink is usually a large piece of metal with a copper pipe extending out of it.
- 4). Disconnect the CPU cooling fan cable from the laptop. Disconnect the retaining Phillips-head screws from the cooling fan assembly. Lift the cooling fan and heat sink assemblies out of the motherboard and set them out of the way.
- 5). Turn the single flat-head CPU locking screw which secures the processor to its socket on the motherboard. Turn the locking screw in a counterclockwise direction until the processor is free from the CPU socket. Lift the processor out of the motherboard and carefully set it to the side.
- 6). Install the new processor by repeating steps one through five in reverse order.
