How to Install a PC Microphone
- 1). Look at the plug of the microphone. Determine whether it is a microphone plug that is long and round, or a USB plug, which is flat and rectangular.
- 2). Look on the back of the computer tower. There should be a microphone jack, often with a pink circle around it and some USB ports. The USB ports may also be located on the front of the computer tower. Plug the end of the microphone cord into the appropriate jack.
- 3). Plug the second line into the green jack, if applicable. The green jack indicates speakers. This might be part of the microphone, depending on the model. If you have separate speakers, plug the appropriate end into the jack. Some speakers will need power from an electrical outlet, so plug the additional cord into an electrical outlet.
- 4). Insert the microphone installation CD into the computer's disc drive. A welcome window will open. Follow the directions and accept them by click the next or install buttons. The installation will take a minute or two. A message will appear once the installation is complete.
- 5). Turn on the computer speakers.
- 6). Check to see whether the microphone works by clicking "Start" on the bottom left corner of the computer screen. Choose the "Control Panel" option and then "Sound and Audio Devices." A window titled "Sound and Audio Devices Properties" will appear.
- 7). Choose the "Audio" tab. Select the "Sound Recording" option and choose the newly installed microphone under the default device drop-down menu. The name should resemble something with "Logitech."
- 8). Locate the volume function. Ensure that nothing is muted. Click on the volume bar and drag it up and down to adjust the volume on the microphone.
