Training Schools for Convicted Juveniles
- Juvenile Justice Commission or JJC Secure Care Facilities oversees the New Jersey Training School, which is the state's largest juvenile facility. The facility opened in 1867 and it houses about 300 youth offenders, as of 2011. NJTS focuses on providing care, treatment and custody for juveniles through the use of programs that have been designed to rehabilitate youth offenders. This training school also offers vocational and trade opportunities in fields such as agriculture, welding and communications. NJTS tries to ensure that youth offenders are employed and productive members in the community once they are released.
- W.J. Maxey Boys Training School is in Michigan and it is residential treatment facility for delinquent male youths between the ages of 12 to 21. Programs that are used at W.J. Maxey are designed to provide specialized rehabilitation treatment and a high level of program security and structure. Youth offenders are constantly monitored by personnel such as clinical professionals and psychologists. Programs for offenders include substance abuse treatment and criminal behavior treatment. Community reintegration, medical health services and spiritual development are other services provided to incarcerated youth at W.J. Maxey.
- The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections is a state-run juvenile program designed to protect the citizens of Arizona from youth offenders while providing them with rehabilitation, education and treatment services. ADJC uses an education program that provides youth offenders with educational opportunities and vocational skills. Training is provided within various fields and special education is provided as well. Helping incarcerated students to become responsible citizens within society is the reason why ADJC provides these services to youth offenders.
- Nevada Youth Training Center is a secure juvenile facility in Elko, Nevada. This facility has space for 160 youth offenders between the ages of 12 to 18. Professional counselors and social workers at this facility offer education and vocational training for incarcerated youth. Various types of educational programs are offered to the offenders and sports programs are available as well. Youth are given training with the goal of integrating them back into society as productive citizens.
