Baking Crafts for Kids
- A simple and fun baking craft for kids is decorating cupcakes. This is an easy craft to design that doesn't require a lot of special materials, and will also be fun for the kids to do. Bake a batch of cupcakes. Gather various decorating materials such as colored icing and sprinkles and place them out on an open area such as a table. Let the kids ice and decorate their own cupcake and, of course, eat it once they are finished.
- Kids love soft pretzels, and playing with the dough prior to baking makes this an even more exciting activity. Make the pretzel dough using a soft pretzel recipe. Afterward, divide the dough into sections and give each section to the kids. Allow them to roll it out and make whichever shape or animal they want and place them on a cookie sheet prior to baking.
- Cut-out cookies are another way for kids to get creative in the kitchen. Make and refrigerate your favorite rolled sugar cookie recipe. Roll out the dough on a flat surface and allow kids to cut out their own cookies using various shaped cookie cutters and place on a cookie sheet. Once they are finished baking, let them decorate the cookies with icing, sprinkles, and anything else they would like to customize their own cookies.
- If you want to involve kids in the "making" part of the baking, it might be a better choice to find a simple recipe and allow them to measure, add, and mix the ingredients. This is another step in the baking process that kids may enjoy doing. Doing a simple Internet search, you will be able to find many recipes that are easy for kids to make. Gather the ingredients and guide them along the way, and of course, do the oven work so that no one gets hurt.
