How to Make Kitchen Organizers
- 1). Cut a 1-inch diameter wooden dowel into four 8-inch lengths using a handsaw. Drill a ¼-inch hole in the end of each dowel length.
- 2). Drill a 1/4-inch hole into each corner of a 10-by-12-inch plywood sheet. Use 1/2-inch thick plywood, as thinner plywood is too flimsy.
- 3). Screw a dowel to each corner of the plywood, using the pre-drilled holes. Set the organizer on pantry or cupboard shelves to double your storage space.
- 1). Wash and dry metal cans of various sizes. Coffee cans and the tins from canned goods work well. You can also use plastic canisters, such as those that hold oatmeal.
- 2). Wrap the top edge of the can with duct tape. Fold the tape over so the edge is sealed within the tape. The tape provides protection from any sharp edges inside the can.
- 3). Cut a piece of self-adhesive shelf paper to the same height as the can. Trim the paper so it is long enough to wrap around the can completely and overlap by ½ inch. Shelf paper wipes clean with a damp cloth, making it suitable for kitchen use.
- 4). Remove the backing from the shelf paper and wrap it around the can, adhering it in place. Store large utensils in the cans. Use cans with lids, such as coffee cans, to store flour, sugar, pasta and other food items.
- 1). Cut a piece of pegboard to fit an available wall space in your kitchen. Alternatively, cut it to fit on the back of a door.
- 2). Paint the pegboard using a paint roller in a color that complements your kitchen décor. Use a high-gloss paint that wipes clean easily and resists staining.
- 3). Glue a magnetic strip to the top of board. Use a magnet strong enough to hold knives and other metal utensils.
- 4). Insert pegboard hooks in the peg holes beginning 6 inches beneath the magnetic strip. Arrange the hooks as desired for hanging utensils, mugs and other kitchen ware.
